Shreya Vuttaluru.
data journalist.

Hello! I'm Shreya (pronounced sh-ray-uh).

I'm an investigative journalist that messes around with data at the Tampa Bay Times. I graduated in May 2023 from the University of Maryland with dual degrees in journalism and political science, and a minor in geospatial information science.

I spent the last semester of my senior year at Maryland as a fellow on the data team at The Baltimore Banner. I also spent six months working on data analysis for a national investigation at The Dallas Morning News and contributed to several projects at the Howard Center for Investigative Journalism.

At school, I edited data and news for The Diamondback, the university's independent student newspaper, where I helped develop the paper's first pipeline for fact-checking data analysis, integrated data visualization into our daily news coverage and established best practices for public records requests on our news and data desks. I also spent time writing and managing enterprise projects, including a series I led on campus accessibility, which was featured in a Washington Post column.

I'm comfortable working in R, Python, ESRI platforms, Adobe Illustrator, HTML and CSS. I'm learning to use JavaScript and QGIS and am always looking for ways to make better maps and write more efficient code.

In the wild, you can find me curating Spotify playlists, thinking about cool maps and watching cooking competition shows.
